Ven Dhamma Viriyo passed away at the mature age of 87

New Delhi, India: On 7th July’2017 Renowned Buddhist Monk Ven Dhamma Viriyo Passed away due to sudden Cardiac Arrest. It has been reported that he was unwell for about a Months and on two different occasions were Hospitalized at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital,New Delhi and Then at AIIMS. He was later discharged from the Hospital.

On 6th July’2017 he complained of pain in the chest and was immediately rushed to AIIMS by his follower Ven Surajit Barua. On the Morning of 7th July’2017, Ven Dhamma Viriyo passed away at the mature age of 87.

On 13th July 2017 his cremation was completed. The service was conducted in the attendance of Various Ministers and Office holders in India.

Dhamma Viriyo was a little boy of 12 in Myanmar (Formerly Known as Burma) under British Regime when Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar (Samvidhan Rachayita) was visiting Mayanmar. Dr. Ambedkar had asked Dhamma Viriyo to visit India to learn Buddhism and spread the wisdom of Buddhism to the world. To become a Monk Dhamma Viriyo was Given as Bhiksha to the Monastry by the Madam Khin Kyi , the mother of Aung San Suu Kyi

In 1976 under the regime of Kazi Lhendup Dorjee (The First Chief Minister of Sikkim), Dr. Dhamma Viriyo founded Kripasharan Buddhist Mission in Sikkim the land for which was donated by Kazi Lhendup Dorjee who was also one of the founding members of the Mission.

Presently Kripasharan Buddhist Mission has 4 Branches in India and runs 4 Destitute Home which are home to about 350 Children whose complete responsibility is taken care by the Mission. Dhamma Viriyo was a father figure to these children and his demise has left a vacant space in the life of these children.

For his contributions to the society he has received BharatJyoti Award, Bijayratna Award, Bijayshree Award and The Rajiv Gandhi Seva Award by Govt. of India.

He has travelled extensively to countries like U.K, U.S.A, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Mayasia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and many countries in the European Union to spread the wisdom of Lord Buddha.
